Why electricity is more expensive in model town than any other area in Lahore?
#1 reason: corruption
#2 massive wastage of electricity at MTS premises
#3 reason: faulty meters (to recover the shortfall)

newspaper: MTS faces another blow: Rivalries spoil power generation scheme
Residents of the Model Town Society (MTS) have been deprived of cheaper electricity, as the society’s planned power-generation project has been cancelled due to internal clashes of the administrative staff and a lack of interest of the people concerned, Daily Times learnt on Wednesday.
The unique project was intended to produce 30 megawatts of electricity against the current consumption of 23 megawatts during peak summer hours. The society was going to sign a deal with a Shahkot-based gas company to install a power-generation plant in the locality, which would have enabled the MTS to sell surplus electricity to the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) or nearby localities. However, rivalry among the administrative staff and some residents had forced the administration to abandon the programme. It was learnt that the opponents to the plant wrote to government agencies and declared the project against the law.
Backed off: Some MTS officials told Daily Times that the agreement was about to be signed between the two stakeholders, and a liquefied natural gas (LNG) company was prepared to import a power-generation plant from Turkey. They said that the company was planning to generate electricity with nitrogen gas, as it had a license to generate the gas to satisfy the energy needs of the Northern Areas and Kashmir. They said that the company was already supplying gas cylinders to consumers in those areas. They said that the company backed off on the proposal due to criticism and pressure from the opponents, and signed a similar deal with one of the largest real estate companies in Pakistan.
Bilal Chughtai of K-Block said that MTS residents had been facing dual problems. “We have to purchase electricity from the MTS administration, which is charging more than what LESCO is charging from residents of other housing societies, and have to face load shedding, as LESCO does not have enough electricity,” he added. He said that the MTS administration had lost a number of development opportunities due to its in-fighting.
Constant opposition: Talking to Daily Times, MTS Acting President Nawab Tahir Ali Khan said that a few elements had always opposed development projects and created problems for residents. He said that the power-generation project could have been a one-of-a-kind project in the country.
He said that the MTS was all set to start the project, but some administrative members had written to various government agencies and the former chief minister. “The power-generating company signed an agreement with another party, as we could not continue with the plan,” he said
